Loch Lomond Adventure

By Macca

Loch Lomond from above Ardlui

BitsofBobs has already covered most of this (he blogged pretty much as soon as he got in, I went straight to bed, ah well) so I’ll keep it neat, with plenty pics, for this was, most of all, a trip on a sunny May bank holiday to take photos with our new (and newish) fancy cameras! Great fun.

SPT daytripper

This thing was a class act, £15 for 2 adults and up to 4 children, in a massive area. We, of course, went as far north as we could get to, Ardlui, right at the north tip of Loch Lomond.

Train heading out of Ardlui

Here’s our wonderful train leaving Ardlui after dropping us off (we were the only folks to get off). As an aside, that was my first trip on the Rathad Iarainn nan Eilean – “Iron Road to the Isles”, and man was it gorgeous. Definitely want to keep going on it sometime right up to Oban and/or Mallaig.

Where shall we go?

So we arrived, with no idea what to expect, what would be there, or what we could do… It was easy tho, WATERFALL!!!!!!!!!!!!! We have previous with waterfall adventures the two of us, one day maybe I’ll dig it out and blog, cos there’s a funny video of Bobby J.

Anyhoo, we randomly walked along the road, managed to find a bridge under the train line. and just climbed up the side of the river, got up relatively high in the end, the top photo is a wee bit below where we got to. Had our pork pies and ham and coleslaw rolls on a massive rock at the side of the river. It was ROASTING!

A nice wee waterfall

This was a wee waterfall down at the bottom of the hill… It was pretty much waterfalls all the way up, until we reached the massive one, Bobby J reckons about 70ft of freefall, probably about right. I just googled “ardlui waterfall” to see if I could find it, and Bobby J’s blog is number one. Brilliant!

We headed down to The Ardlui Marina and Hotel, had a couple of gorgeous Magners in the sun, and some grub. Ended the day sitting with a beer waiting on the train back home. Brilliant day out.
